For the GMTK Gamejam 2021 - "Joined Together"

Until We Meet Again is a minimalist puzzle/simulation game where you use RINGS to organize and filter a group of aliens (represented by shapes) to help them get to their spaceships!

[CONTROLS: Use your MOUSE to DRAG and DROP]

Connect RINGS to join circulation paths, then move them apart to disconnect them. Each RING acts as filter for both 'shape' and 'color'. For example a yellow circle will allow ALL YELLOW (of any shape) and ALL CIRCLES (of any color) to pass through. Think UNO!

Some RINGS will be marked as spaceships - they function as filters AND a destination point. You need to fully board ALL spaceships on the level with all the shapes (aliens) that match BOTH its 'shape' + 'color' to clear the level.

Tips:

  • Connect multiple rings together to create a more complex filters
  • Separate and connect the right moment pull/send desired shapes
  • Shapes will always try and move to a NEW connected circle when possible.
  • Disconnecting the circles resets this relationship.
  • If everything gets a little too messy, try resetting the level and attempt from fresh (it's much easier once you have a strategy!)

*how it fits "JOINED TOGETHER" :

In “Until We Meet Again” players use a combination of joining and breaking chains of RINGS to create a system that sorts and filters a random group of shapes. The organised shapes need to then be re-grouped on specific RINGS (marked with rockets) order to clear the level and send the aliens home!

Known Issues/Changes:

  • A 'direction' to the filter will be added which is based on order of connection. This should almost entirely resolve the logic issues that make the sorting of objects feel unintuitive. (fixed!)
  • A fast-forward toggle (or automatic, if the puzzle is solved correctly)
  • Moving the RESET button to its own seperate button

The concept is great! It's visually stunning, the music relaxing... but I'm getting mad because of the almost nonexistent space I have to work. Because of the auto-snapping, the filters are constantly jumping to one another and getting mixed up. Was this intended? I would think that having some more space will be much appreciated. Also, I don't know if there is a correct way to link them, but the filters just... worked whenever they wanted to xD (I understand the UNO rules, they simply don't get linked. Is there some sort of filter priority?)

I love the art style!  :D

Definitely a pretty unique idea, I like the intuitiveness in that I didnt need much to learn what to do. Very calming art style.

Thank you! I'm glad you understood it since we didn't put alot of tutorialization in the game.

I still think it could be conveyed to the player better if only I could figure out how!
